Challenge Five - Wikipedia Edit

I edited the page on Parade Float: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Float_%28parade%29

I added this quote "the 500 Festival Parade in Indianapolis, the United States Presidential Inaugural Parade," because our family business was building parade floats and I had been involved in both many times.

In the past I have encouraged my students to use only use subscription encyclopedia resources such as Worldbook or Groliers.  Now that I have actually edited a page, I will encourage them to become an expert on something so they may add to or edit existing posts about things they are knowledgeable about.  During our research process assignment, I will continue to endorse either a print or online source that has been written by professional fact-checkers.

Challenge Four - Sharing Creative Commons

This shouldn't have been a hard project as all the pieces are fairly straight forward.  Unfortunately before I could use Animoto I had to upgrade my flash player, download Firefox, allow cookies and clear a cookie cache.  Using photos from Creative Commons I retrieved library images that are not super clear.  Last year as part of a professional development training at my school, I was able to create something similar using iphoto and imovie with better results.  Here are the fruits of my labor: <object id="vp1C38Rk" width="432" height="240" classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000"><param name="movie" value="http://static.animoto.com/swf/w.swf?w=swf/vp1&e=1325089764&f=C38Rkv4JTgQZgIWZdbEDlQ&d=29&m=b&r=360p&volume=100&start_res=360p&i=m&options="></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed id="vp1C38Rk" src="http://static.animoto.com/swf/w.swf?w=swf/vp1&e=1325089764&f=C38Rkv4JTgQZgIWZdbEDlQ&d=29&m=b&r=360p&volume=100&start_res=360p&i=m&options=" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="432" height="240"></embed></object><p>Try our <a href='http://animoto.com'>slideshow creator</a> at Animoto.</p>

Challenge #3 - Web 2.0 Create

I created a Prezi http://prezi.com/ikwmqkkgsubi/new-essential-teacher-standards/ to be shown to the staff.  I enjoyed the experience and thought the product was easy to use.  My Tech Fac, Linh Altork, added some bullet points to the original document.

Challenge #2 - Make a comment

I commented on a list of best picture books from the bookpage blog at  http://www.bookpage.com/the-book-case/2011/12/14/best-childrens-books-of-2011/#comment-571501 "I am embarrassed to say that I had not yet read all your Best of 2011 titles. As an elementary school librarian I am very excited about the recommendations and look forward to sharing them with my students."

Challenge #2 - Who I subscribed to

For the second challenge I chose to subscibe to the DPS Tech Challenge http://fall-dps-tech-challenge.blogspot.com/ (because it was required), Toni Keplinger's page http://moreheadmeerkats.blogspot.com/ (because I have heard wonderful things about her Media program), and the Book Page blog http://www.bookpage.com/  (because it is my favorite monthly book publication).

Challenge #1 - I really am participating this time.

Hi Everyone,

The second time is a charm.  I got halfway through the Summer Tech Challenge and went on vacation.  I am participating to learn more about the Technology end of being a Media Coordinator.  When I received my MLS in 1995 the internet was still all text on gopher : )
